Be ready to be fired any time. Quarterly results play a vital role. Cisco is well renowned for networking and firing. Annual appraisal depends on your business unit. You will get used to hearing headcount reduction, business unit sale, or some acquisitions quite often. Appraisal is only single-digit. Performance doesn't matter when it comes to firing. I feel sad for my fellow colleagues losing jobs.

Don't fire employees for business reasons.
Give them an option to change business units.
