Process

The recruiter was great, but once I interviewed with the hiring manager... so many red flags.

First off, he swore like a sailor, which did not offend me but was very odd given the context.

Second, he seemed very culture-bound. All questions seemed to have a single answer, which was the way Clio does it. Perhaps unsurprising given 10 years at the same company and my sample size was small, but the dev environment seems quite parochial. It has all the hallmarks of a sales-focused company rather than a technology-focused company, and the engineering side suffers from the attribution fallacy. This impression was reinforced by what seems to be an exceptionally mediocre tech stack.

Lastly, the interviewer said he has two code reviewers for every commit because he doesn't trust his programmers not to collude to push stuff through. If this is a problem, then you've got bigger problems than just code reviews.

At the end of the day, this did not seem like a culture I want to be a part of. Very "my way or the highway", a lack of respect and professionalism that clothes itself as "strong leadership". Been there, done that. No thank you.
