I had two interviews.
First interview with the Manager, Architect, and another Lead Developer. Second interview with the Partners.
Although my first interview experience was fairly better, my second interview experience was horrible.
I had two interviews.
First interview was a technical round for about an hour, evaluating technical skills and understanding background with the Manager, Architect, and another Lead Developer. All of them were friendly and polite. The Architect tried to ask some deeper questions and some not so relevant questions.
Second interview was arranged the next day with the two partners for 30 minutes. I managed to take some time and be available for the interview. One partner was friendly and polite; the other partner was driving during the interview and was off camera for some time. If you are not available for an interview, you would be better off rescheduling it rather than doing it half-heartedly.
First conversation: The male partner introduced the female partner and gave me a background about her instead of himself. Maybe he was not interested in introducing himself.
Then, during my turn, I was introducing myself. I was trying to explain my skills, background, and experience, then he interrupted me, saying that you are explaining your achievements in a standard way. (Felt rude at this stage because he was not on camera in the first place and was told my answers sounded like scripted, typical interview answers). Maybe he didn't have time to go through my CV. Well, in an interview, you are meant to explain your accomplishments and talk about your key strengths. And then later on, I explained my personal interests, and he seemed to be fine with that. He asked me how old my children were; I'm not sure why he wondered about their ages.
I asked about what kind of training programs are available so I know what is being offered. To this, he responded, "This is a typical interview question that pops up if you Google." It may be a typical interview question, but it was asked for a reason.
Overall, this guy was very rude and not interested in knowing individual strengths and interests.
Then I had to follow up several times with the recruiter for the outcome. They came back to me after 10 days, saying they are not moving ahead with my application and that they need someone with more technical skills. If you realized that my technical skills were not aligned, why did you schedule my second interview within a few hours of my first interview?
There is a reason why people ask questions in interviews; even if they sound cliché, you will need to consider answering them.
In my first interview, I was asked where I would like to see myself in the next 5 years, and in the second interview, I was asked by the male partner what I would do in the first 3 months. Don't they sound like questions Googled up? Please respect people's time and give value to their skills and experience. Don't have a view that everything is Googled. They totally wasted my time.
Good luck finding your Unicorns! And advice to the male partner: stop using Google a lot and be actually available for the interviews.
