In the screening out, I met two friendly and knowledgeable engineers. I learned a few things during the interview round.
I saw the total opposite behavior during the onsite rounds.
In the onsite interview, two interviewers were not respectful to the candidate. They were having lunch during the interview and barely listening to anything. It seems they had already decided not to hire, and it felt like a waste of time for the candidate.
I suggest that if you find the candidate is not up to the mark at any stage of the interview, why not cut short the discussion instead of pretending and wasting both parties' time?
