The interview process was as follows:

1. An HR call where we discussed my experience and the role they were offering. The recruiter then moved me to the second round, which was a tech screening.

This is where things became irrelevant as per the job description.

1. The tech screening was not at all related to release engineering. Release engineering, as the interviewer himself stated, is about system administration and platform engineering, focusing on keeping middleware and systems up to date, with aspects related to operations and some development (automation).

I was being assessed on software development, which is not relevant to my experience, nor is it the appropriate way to interview for the specified role. I obviously tried my best in the development round, but those screenings are meant for developers, not for release engineers.

You might be doing well as a company, but you really need to review your process and conduct job-specific interviews. You cannot simply state that you are currently conducting development-related interviews and will have role-specific interviews later. It does not work that way!
