Cons

The technology is antiquated and difficult to maintain.

There isn't a technological innovation mindset within the company. This shows both within the decade-old codebase that must be maintained and the lack of forward progress in applying new technologies.

The approach to feature development is entirely top-down with little or no room for input or feedback at the lowest levels for engineers.

There is also a huge gap between product development and product management. The engineering side rarely sees the larger picture. Minimal effort is made by the marketing/business strategy team to ensure the engineer at the bottom of the totem pole is aware of the overall vision and direction.

Advice to Management

Empower the engineers within the company to embrace new technologies and ideas.

Give the programmers more freedom to pursue worthwhile projects instead of forcing features down the chain of command.
