Pros

The travel market is a very fast-paced and exciting place where technology provides infinite opportunities for innovation in customer-facing features. Expedia is a key player in this market, and its original successes were determined by innovations in both the business and technology aspects of the domain space.

Cons

Over the years after it was sold by Microsoft, Expedia lost the passion for technology that made it successful. Its culture and core values deteriorated to a point where the main thing that remained important was office politics. Expedia lost most of its strong technologists, and decisions about organizational and technological directions appeared to be quite random.

Advice to Management

I don't know if it is still possible to go back to the core values Expedia had in 1998. This is something I would encourage the leadership at Expedia to take a closer look at.
