Fragmented and constant restructuring

Software Engineer/Developer
Former Employee
Worked at Fidelity Investments for less than 1 year
January 8, 2014
Boston, Massachusetts
2.0
Pros
  • Excellent benefits (401k matching, discounts with major companies, free portfolio management, etc.)
  • Great if you want a laid-back job
  • A lot of flexibility to move laterally
Cons
  • Salaries are not competitive.
  • The boss had very little power in giving reasonable raises because of "company policy."
  • The work is not as challenging as it could be.
  • There is lots of red tape when you wish to use software that is not on the company list of "compliant" software.
  • A business casual dress code forced on software engineers is never a good idea.
Advice to Management

Stop the infinite restructuring and IT transformation. When I joined, there was a restructuring going on. I asked employees working there, and they said that it was par for the course and that some of them had experienced so many they lost count.
