I applied online and was contacted by a recruiter via email. I had a phone screening with them, and they were very nice and informative.
Next, I was scheduled for the technical phone interview. When I received the study guide, I was a little turned off. I applied for a front-end position, but the material covered advanced data structures and algorithms (tree traversal, graphs, etc.). I feel it's a little deceptive to advertise a front-end position and then test skills I don't regularly use, rather than JavaScript or front-end knowledge.
I understand the desire for a strong foundational knowledge, but if you're going to delve into more complex problems, I suggest advertising all positions as general software engineer roles.
My second complaint pertains to the actual phone interview itself. It's difficult to manage the phone and type simultaneously. I wish they had used Google Hangouts instead, as it would have been much easier.
Another issue was that my interviewer had a strong accent, making him hard to understand. Normally, this wouldn't be a significant problem, but during a timed interview, it's frustrating to constantly ask for repetitions.
Other than that, he was very helpful and a good interviewer.
About a week later, I received an email to schedule a time to chat with the recruiter. This was essentially a call to inform me that I wouldn't be moving forward but to keep in contact and try again in a couple of months.
Overall, it was a stressful interview process, and I probably won't be applying again in the future.
I won't say specifics, but it was on tree and graph traversal.
