9 one-hour-long phone screens ~8 additional calls with recruitment Was told I had an offer They then ghosted me
It's been too long a process to list every detail, but here's the gist.
First call was with a recruiter and lasted just under an hour. Over the next few weeks, I had 8 more video calls. After the 7th interview, I was told I'd made it and would be receiving an offer if I wanted the job. There was just one more call, which was just so I could ask questions about the role before I made a decision. This call actually turned out to be another interview, so I basically learned nothing about the role. I only had time for a few questions at the end. I then never, of course, received an offer. The process is still technically ongoing, as I was supposed to hear back again last week. But as stated above, they have decided to ignore me, so far as I can tell.
It's normal to sometimes feel a bit disheartened after not receiving an offer. But HashiCorp has ultimately left me feeling upset, confused, and embarrassed. I was told that they are in an "opportunistic hiring phase," and the recruiter told me that his hands were tied because "no team is telling me they want you." Other than a couple of small things, I had only received positive feedback on my interviews. I was told I did "really well in all of them." They also told me on one of my first calls that they were mostly focusing on hiring minorities for the role I applied for (I'm not a minority). I can't tell you that this was a factor in my case; however, the role I was going for is still open, and I received just about only positive feedback. So what else am I left to think? If you don't want to hire me, that's totally fine. I get it. Just please terminate the process. What you're doing is completely unfair, and I feel discriminated against in some way, but you won't tell me what the issue is.
And please don't tell people an offer is being drafted if you're not going to make an offer.
I initially thought that your 12 values had grounds. This interview process has taught me that those values are basically not upheld during the hiring phase.
This isn't so much feedback for HashiCorp; it's more of a warning for those who don't want to be treated with absolute disrespect or discrimination when job seeking.
