Areas for improvement:
In terms of the on-site interview, I understand the company wishes candidates to drive the design process and show their depth of knowledge as much as possible. However, it's a two-way communication. If you ask someone to design an addUser function, the candidate should be informed when they should go deeper in their design. There's always a distinction between simple, high-level functional design versus deeper, low-level system design. Candidates should be given a clear level of difficulty for the questions so they know when they need to go deeper in some areas, e.g., performance or scalability.
I think HubSpot is a very good company. Even if I don't get the offer, I really like the way they organized the interview.
