Software Engineer Interview Experience - Boston, Massachusetts

Process

I had an initial screening interview with one of HubSpot's internal recruiters. We discussed my interests as a developer and potential fits within the company, such as front-end, back-end, or working with designers.

Following that, I was sent a coding test, which I could take on my own schedule but had a three-hour time limit.

The test involved significant JSON data manipulation. If you haven't performed this extensively before, completing it within three hours can be challenging.

My output wasn't quite right at the end, so I didn't advance further in the process. However, it was a valuable learning experience for aspiring developers and engineers, as well as for professionals looking to improve their skillsets.

I definitely recommend brushing up on sets, arrays, and maps to develop quick solutions for such problems.

My only concern with the process is that the coding test itself doesn't differentiate between interviewees applying for front-end or back-end teams.
