Questions

How do you rate yourself on C++? (This they'll ask to see our confidence, I think)

What are the three pillars of OOP or C++?

  1. What is a virtual destructor? Provide example code.
  2. Dynamic cast
  3. Smart pointers, provide example code.
  4. What is a Singleton and provide code for a singleton class? (Asked if I know other design patterns, I said no :))
  5. What is a thread? What is the difference between a process and a thread? What are the ways of interprocess communication?
  6. Inside the constructor of a class, assume memory is allocated using new on the second line and an exception is thrown on the next line. Once the exception is handled, will we have access to the memory allocated on the second line? If yes, how? If no, how do we handle memory leaks? (I was confused and my answer was smart pointers, still not sure what the answer is.)
  7. Write C++ code to depict a virtual function and explain how a virtual pointer works. How many vptrs and vtables will there be?
  8. Deep copy vs. shallow copy. Copy constructor and assignment operator.
  9. Operator overloading
  10. References vs. pointers
  11. Virtual base class
  12. C++ code to find the position of a given character in a string and print the "remaining string starting from that position/character."
  13. Placement new
