Got a call from a referral and met the first-line manager.
Two other people then conducted interviews.
After that, I met the department manager and then the regional manager.
It took six rounds of office visits to meet different people, as they came from the country head office.
Two days were spent filling out all the appointment procedures and signing documents.
Three months later, a background check occurred.

Pros: The technology. Working on leading-edge technology and inventing new processes and products that are the best in the world is fun.
Cons: High stress. New technologies have a lot of problems that need to be solved, and it seems we are always under pressure to fix them immediately. Every year, our portion of health benefits increases, our pension or retirement plan diminishes, and the pay raises do not keep up with the costs.

Pros: It's IBM... nuff said. Gold on the resume.
Cons: IBM is offshoring everything. Even the Dubuque center is designed to train aliens, then offshore the positions and 'retire' the onshore staff (read RA).

Pros: Many of the old IBM ways still exist, such as lots of great 1st line managers who used to get lots of training in how to be a great manager, lots of team spirit and willingness to be helpful, and some optimism still remains.
Cons: This is no longer a fun place to work. Middle and senior management think it's all about them and their careers, not the products. Also, there are not enough people left to produce good products any longer. Quality is severely suffering. Everyone works from home, so it's like everyone has checked out, just collecting paychecks.
