Process
I was initially interviewed for a co-op/intern position over the phone. It was a fairly easy interview, with very few questions about my interests and school studies. I never had an interview for permanent hire, as I had proven myself to get an offer for permanent hire. It is the best way to get hired into a company after graduating from school.

Interesting work, but high pressure and insufficient resources

Pros: Good people to work with, and the work can be interesting.
Cons: There is never enough time or people to do the work we're given.
There is very high pressure to get any problem resolved immediately.
Nights and weekend work is common, without compensation.
There is little recognition for doing a job well the first time.
But if you make a mistake and then correct it, people notice that you fixed something, even though you were the one to break it to begin with.
As in many places, those that talk the loudest are those that advance, even if what they are so loudly talking about is nonsense.

Pros: Work schedule flexibility, benefits, company reputation.
Cons: Ineffective upper-level management, too frequent upper-level management "restructuring", low pay relative to other companies in the industry, too much duplicated effort, too many internal ineffectual websites (wasted money, overhead, and time), excess bureaucracy, little or no support for professional development, and inconsistent system for promotions.

Pros: There's always opportunity to get promoted and take on interesting work.
Cons: Software engineers in general should make more. IBM does okay financially, so pay increases should occur more often.
