Process

I joined IBM Global Delivery Company Limited weeks ago. My team worked on the Suncorp project, an Australian insurance company.

There were three rounds of technical interviews, all conducted via phone because they did not reimburse travel costs to Shanghai.

  • The first round was quite simple, with basic questions on Java and English skills.
  • In the second round, two engineers interviewed me. They started with simple questions and then delved deeper. I really enjoyed the process because they asked some excellent questions and conducted it more like a technical discussion than an interview, creating a comforting atmosphere.
  • The last round was with another team. This interviewer was a bit more serious, and all discussions were technically oriented.

Questions

Agile methodology.

What do you know about the Java concurrent package? What is the difference between the concurrent package and synchronized classes?

I mentioned ConcurrentHashMap; they asked how it was implemented. Luckily, I had read about its implementation before, so I gave a briefing of its code design details.

Java 7 features.

If a variable is shared by multiple threads, how do you ensure thread safety?

Design patterns, Hibernate entity states.
