Good colleagues, some life-long friends. IBM Research used to be the jewel in the crown, leading to some ground-breaking innovation. IBM used to be very client-centric during my first 10 years with the company.
Current management is abysmal, starting from senior leadership downwards. They are boosting their personal returns above the health and long-term future of the company.
Therefore, instead of accelerating innovation and making big bets (think Microsoft turnaround), they've been playing a financial game while most products and their quality circle the drain (mainframe excepted).
In other words, they are trying to squeeze outsize margins from sub-par products by using the brand name. Buyer beware.
This is brutal, but there is only one way to break the bad news: Leave the building!
The first round was a cognitive assessment, which had four sections consisting of puzzles, basic math, and more. Then there were two technical rounds. Both were coding rounds of medium difficulty, consisting of programming questions, SQL, and more.
Phone interview, asked for technical question about their problem domain, which I was not able to answer. She asked me about my experience in developing cloud clusters and the cloud management REST API.
A telephone interview with HR, after a video interview and an in-person interview, always with HR. This was followed by a technical interview on-site and an interview with the project manager.
