Pros

IBM helps you invest in yourself.

I am provided several opportunities to expand my skillset with training and certifications, as well as provided views into different perspectives outside of my day-to-day. This serves to give insight into other parts of the company that I may not have known about and builds relationships.

Cons

Processes can become convoluted and cause issues with collaboration, innovation, or new process development. With IBM being such a large corporation, sometimes current processes are so ingrained that they are difficult to deviate from when working with other teams that may not have the same processes, or when trying to incorporate new services into IBM that may not have existed until now.

Advice to Management

Lab environments for new and emerging products that IBM will support need a more concrete and streamlined support process.

Volunteers can get easily overloaded trying to manage the labs, which can cause difficulties getting accesses added or edited.

There can also be an issue with budget when so many people are utilizing the labs. A volunteer cannot be expected to manage all of this alone, but the issue exists and can cause us to lose these labs, which are an invaluable resource for learning.
