Pros

Flexible working. Average pay. Great opportunities for women, minorities, and disabled individuals. Potential to work on significant projects. Good work-life balance. The people are often great; you can almost rely on anyone in the organization to be helpful.

Cons
  • Morale rock-bottom.
  • Project management often very poor. Projects are badly run and technically compromised through lack of planning and arbitrary dates.
  • No training, except from fellow employees.
  • Sometimes awful work-life balance. It can depend.
  • The company PBC process for rating employees is demoralizing and gears up employees to play the game rather than excelling at their day job.
Advice to Management

Take software engineering seriously – it is what a software group should be about.
