An endless scope and area to develop a person's career. Unlike many competing companies where career areas are available for changes and employees are available to do so. Many competing companies do not have the breadth and depth of areas to work on.
For example, if one wishes to pursue a career in another area, this company will provide you with options to learn and try different areas. It is highly encouraged to learn and explore, whereas competing companies make it difficult to move from one position to another within the same company.
IBM is like a mini-country within. It is up to an employee to make or break, most of the time.
The biggest one is the salaries; they tend to be at 80% of the market level, which for some is a significant gap. Another downside is that, the company being so large, it's like an elephant when it comes to responding to market needs/situations.
