Pros

There are many, many opportunities whatever your interest may be. However, one needs to pursue them with aggressiveness and do a lot of homework to understand them.

Cons

The policies are making it more and more difficult for genuine, above-average contributors to fall through the gaps and get lost in the complicated processes, losing out on seniority for promotion and deserved salary hikes. The organization is saturated at the mid-management level, and management is using the bell curve in exactly the manner it should not be—to avoid rewarding the deserving.

Advice to Management

Promotions should be to those who deserve, not those who can project themselves better in a promotion application package, which in itself is a highly complicated system. It requires people to rate themselves on parameters that are not even part of their KPIs. I started out with IBM as my dream company and left feeling cheated out of what I deserved. Hiring and firing are way more expensive than retaining good talent.
