Pros

There are a lot of smart people, and the pay is good. Many very large companies absolutely need IBM in order for them to continue operations.

Cons

Despite years of trying to reinvent IBM, the company has not been reinvented.

Too many people know how to "play the game": avoid making measurable commitments, always have an excuse for missed delivery or quality problems, fly under the radar, and keep collecting paychecks.

Advice to Management

Be as hard on your product development teams as you are on your sales teams. IBM has not released a successful new product and taken it to scale in over a decade.
