Due to politics, only a few favorite people get promoted. These individuals talk too much without much knowledge and don't do much actual groundbreaking work. The actual work is usually done by juniors or contractors. Favorite people just have good social connections with leadership, regardless of actual performance. People who actually deserve promotion are sidelined.
