Pros

Talented coworkers, a lot to learn, decent mobility within the organization, and it's generally a well-run place considering the huge volume of everything they do (though I would say less so during recent lean years).

Cons

Very hierarchical and political. Negotiate hard before you start because you won't get a raise, and bonuses can be laughable. Generally, fairly stable work if not the best-paying.

Advice to Management

Be more flexible. Know the value of your employees and understand the amount of investment that goes into learning how these incredibly complicated systems work. If you find a talented, knowledgeable employee, keep him/her.
