It doesn't pay to be a high performer

Pros

Excellent work-life balance in IT.

Cons

Poor compensation increases. The only way to get paid is to beg or leave and come back a year later. They pay people coming in off the street more than those who establish a career there. Strange, if you ask me.

Advice to Management

Reward your high performers for being high performers. If you don't do this, they will leave, and you have to hire new people that require training.

It blows my mind that the company and its managers would rather spend money to train people instead of just taking that same money and paying their existing employees more. People who feel taken care of will work harder than those who don't.
