Pros: You usually get a nice office.

Cons: The pay is 30% to 40% lower than comparable positions at similarly sized software companies. The company uses a fairly arbitrary stack ranking policy, so the managers are a bunch of butt-covering mediocrities who couldn't use a piece of software if their lives depended on it, never mind design and code up a piece of software.

Pros: There are a lot of smart people and good software. If you drink the Kool-Aid and buy into the contract, then it is probably a nice place to work. If you don't, don't even consider this company.

Cons: Glacial pace of development. Very little influence due to organization structure. Macintosh platform all but ignored, despite management statements to the contrary. Lots of lip service to core values; not much in practice. If you want to be creative, MathWorks is not the place to be.

Pros: Free breakfast and free lunch. Free dinner if you stay in the office until 7:30–8:00 PM.

Cons: Working pressure for a software developer is very high, as a developer needs to deliver multiple features, fix bugs, and write tests and numerous examples every half year. Low base salary. No stock. Very few bonuses. The base salary increase is about 3% annually if you work very hard to catch up the plan. No product manager who knows the relation between different products. So, people in different teams hardly notice the feature difference between cross-teams and what other teams are doing. HRs are non-responsive and do not care about the personal conditions of employees. The manager determines your working experience only.
