Process

I was contacted by a recruiter for the security team via email about a few openings. I expressed interest in learning more.

After several email exchanges to schedule a time, another recruiter emailed me to confirm that someone would call me at the scheduled time. The first recruiter had mentioned I would be using the tool on collabedit.com.

So far, I had not been told what position I was actually interviewing for, nor whether the call was for a general interview or to provide more details. I had applied to several different roles on their site, so I was unsure what to expect.

It turned out the first phone call was with the hiring manager, and I was being interviewed for a software engineer position. The hiring manager asked if I had been informed about the available positions, and I said no. He was glad to explain.

I told the manager I was hoping for a security engineering job, not software engineering. He suggested I might be a better fit for a different team and offered to inform the other manager of my interest, stating I would hear back. I inquired if there was an opening on that team, and he replied they are always hiring new talent. I took that as a positive sign.

I wasn't actually asked to code during the phone interview. I followed up with the recruiters, asking about the next steps and if I could interview with the manager on the other team. They said they would get back to me.

I waited but received no emails scheduling another interview. When I inquired about the status, I still haven't heard back. It's been 10 days. I suppose I've been dropped.

I am disappointed by the lack of communication and detail from the recruiters. I guess this is common with larger companies.
