Great work culture makes up for a lot, but by far not everything

Pros

Working conditions vary by team for contractors. I lucked out with the HR company I worked for and availed of many benefits that the Facebook FTEs had:

  • Flexible schedule
  • Remote options available
  • Great work site perks

Excellent for early career workers looking to gain a breadth of hard and soft skills and experience in a variety of areas: project management, auditing, tech, business ops, data analysis, etc.

Cons

-Ethically dubious actions by Meta caused an almost constant stream of internal controversy and debate. -Authoritarian corporate structure is… awkward, to say the least. -The business model is highly inequitable, pitting extremely well-compensated Facebook direct employees with much less well-compensated contractors. -Facebook makes it very hard for (largely Black, Brown, and women-dominated) contractor workers to organize due to the presence of multiple contracting agencies and byzantine NDAs. -There are lots of barriers to advancement for non-FTE/contractor employees.
