Working conditions vary by team for contractors. I lucked out with the HR company I worked for and availed of many benefits that the Facebook FTEs had:

-Ethically dubious actions by Meta caused an almost constant stream of internal controversy and debate. -Authoritarian corporate structure is… awkward, to say the least. -The business model is highly inequitable, pitting extremely well-compensated Facebook direct employees with much less well-compensated contractors. -Facebook makes it very hard for (largely Black, Brown, and women-dominated) contractor workers to organize due to the presence of multiple contracting agencies and byzantine NDAs. -There are lots of barriers to advancement for non-FTE/contractor employees.
The process was pretty smooth and a good experience. There were several rounds, but the whole process was pretty long, lasting about 4 months. I did not make it to the final round, though.
