Pros: The greatest pro of working at Microsoft is the wonderful people. I spend all day with fabulous coworkers and chose to spend my free time with a different group of Microsoft employees. I cannot say enough about the professional support, as well as the personal contacts I've found within Microsoft.
Cons: Cloudy vision for some areas. Satya Nadella seems to have a cohesive vision for a unified Microsoft. There will be some growing pains, but well worth it.

Great Team, Corporate Bureaucracy

Pros: I was lucky enough to mainly work with really good, hardworking people. The managers that I reported to directly were very cool, and when I showed that I wanted more responsibility, they had no trouble trusting me and gave it to me with little oversight aside from key milestones, etc.
Cons: It is a massive global corporation, which means there is no real heart when it comes to the big decisions to cut or to keep.
Also, all too often upper management is pushing to get things done that can't get done, at least not well. That goes against my drive to do things correctly.
It is exceedingly difficult to go from contractor to FTE.

Pros: Work-life balance, great team, great skills to learn, new things you see every day, great location. Don't worry about parking or anything, it's in the middle of everything. Helpful people, cool building, cool work environment. Benefits for FTEs are really good.
Cons: Lots of vendors are stuck as vendors.
Some FTEs treat vendors differently.
I would wish to learn more open-source technologies too.
Compensation is lower than at other companies, but benefits are better.
The medical plan was better 2 years ago.
