Process

I spoke with the recruiter at the on-campus career fair. I was scheduled for a 45-minute on-campus interview the following week.

The interview began with background discussion, interests, and small talk for 15 minutes. I was then asked to write code on paper and discuss my solution. The interviewer provided input on my code and suggested possible improvements. I improved my code and made it more effective twice, but the interviewer expected more. By the time I realized how I could do better, there wasn't enough time to code. So, he asked me to explain it to him verbally on our way out.

I received an email within the next 1-2 weeks inviting me for an on-site interview, which would be the final round. After another 3 weeks, I traveled to Redmond.

The interview began at 8 am and consisted of 4 rounds, each lasting 45 minutes, with a 15-minute break in between. Each round was with a different interviewer. Everyone asked a bit about my resume and projects, and then had one question for me to solve using whiteboard programming.

I had good vibes and was expecting a positive response, but I wasn't expecting the results to be given the very next day. :)

Questions

Topics covered included Object-Oriented Concepts, Linked Lists, Recursion, Arrays, and Strings. The questions were straightforward, but finding the most efficient solution could get slightly tricky. Make sure to explain your answers as you go and discuss with them, rather than treating it as a question-answer session.
