I communicated via email with an interview scheduler to fly out to Redmond. I had already passed the first round at an on-campus interview, so the on-site interview was scheduled within a couple of weeks.
For the actual interview day, it started with the HR representative asking basic questions to ensure I was a fit for the position. Afterward, she directed me to my first interviewer. The interviewers would then take me to the next person on my schedule and discuss my performance with each other in between.
FYI, if you're honest with your HR representative about any concerns you might have regarding the position, the other interviewers will be aware of them and will do their best to persuade you otherwise.
The interview questions were not as difficult as I had anticipated. They were reasonable and could definitely be completed within the allotted interview time. There were instances where I freely admitted to not knowing the answer to a question. In those cases, the interviewers would pose a related question to see if I could figure it out without prior knowledge.
For candidates fresh out of college, my impression was that they don't expect comprehensive knowledge of specific subjects but rather raw talent and the ability to think critically. It's important to be relaxed, enthusiastic, and connect with the interviewers.
The interviewers were all very friendly and genuinely enthusiastic about their work. By the end of the interviews, it was clear they were impressed with me. I received the offer the following day.
I don't want to list the specific questions, but I thought all the questions were very fair. They included design problems, algorithms, data structures, and pointers.
