HackerRank: I got a HackerRank assessment and a week to take it.
I did not have a referral, but I do have a history of applying for the last few years, so I'm not sure if that had any weight on it. I also don't go to a target school; I just applied early.

Good Benefits, Stressful Bureaucracy

Pros: Some of the compensation packages Microsoft provides are very good (e.g., health insurance). Additionally, the Redmond campus is beautiful.
Cons: There is a lot of bureaucracy, so be prepared. A lot of employees do little to no work and push it onto the members lower in the hierarchy, so it can be very stressful for the lowest member of the team.

Pros: My team is fairly open to new ideas. I have a lot of autonomy in my work. I can choose to either work remotely or from the office, and there are a lot of opportunities for growth.
Cons: I haven't really had any issues with Microsoft so far.
