Process
A recruiter contacted me, and I set up a phone interview.
She asked many questions about MongoDB's software and my experience with it. She also inquired about my knowledge of SQL.
Additionally, she asked about the types of projects I am interested in working on.
Since I wasn't particularly interested in MongoDB, the interview process concluded.

Great internship. Friendly, open environment, real work, exciting growth. Had a great summer

Pros: 10gen is not too big. As an intern, we had lunch and question sessions with the founders and CEO. They gave us choices for our project and hooked us up with mentors. All of the projects were real work that is important to the company. Everyone is friendly; you can just go up and talk to them. They had intern events like movies, laser tagging, etc., every week.
Cons: Doesn't have the crazy perks like a free cafeteria, haircuts, or buses, etc., that you get at big companies like Facebook or Google.

Pros: Individuals, and some small teams, in the company are brilliant and can get amazing things done. In general, employees are high quality and have a huge amount of potential.
Cons: Departments and teams have little interaction or cohesion. A lack of vision leads to challenges executing and focusing on short-term goals, and the inability to plan for longer-term ones.
There is no real company culture or ownership, which makes it hard to be personally invested or put in the extra time or energy to make something great.

Great people, challenging work

Pros: The technical work is challenging, and you actually get stuff done even as interns. Other engineers are very approachable, both professionally and personally. You can eat lunch with different people every day from all parts of the organization. For interns, there are lots of social events planned, and you get free lunch almost every other day!
Cons: Right in NYC, so the cost of living is kinda high.
If you're a person who likes to be at work at 7 or even 8, you'll probably be alone in the office.
