Process

My resume was sent to the Hiring Manager. HR called me, and a phone interview was scheduled in 2 days.

On the 1-hour phone interview:

  • What projects I worked on and on what parts specifically.
  • Hashing and Equals questions: See Java API rules, good hashing, what if it returns 0, how HashMap works. Collections: basic, synchronized, concurrent, efficiency. Threading: blocking queue, volatile.
  • Problem-solving: An array with prices in time order, what is the worst buy-sell case? Can't sell before buying.

Next Monday, there were 4 times 1-hour long 1-to-1 interviews.

  • Java equals and hashCode with examples. Final keyword in Java, final method, constructor in an abstract class. Concurrency questions.
  • Implement merge sort, implement printing (sub)folders and files, recursive and non-recursive.
  • How to test a third-party library with multiple threads: Completion Service or blocking queue.
  • 4 employees in a room want to know the average salary without exposing it to anyone: How?

Questions

Implement merge sort.
