Software Engineer Interview Experience - New York, New York

March 1, 2010
Neutral ExperienceNo Offer

Process

The interviewer was not a native speaker and seemed more nervous than I was over the phone.

The interview started with an introduction of myself, covering my origin, education, projects completed, and strengths.

He then asked about my five-year career aspirations. I stated I would become a project manager, interacting with business clients. I believe my answer suggested a preference for the business side over software development, which might be why my offer was declined.

He proceeded to ask several technical questions, particularly about Java:

  • What are the pros and cons of an array and a hashtable?
  • Can a Java class extend more than one class?
  • What is the difference between a runtime exception and a normal exception?

The interview concluded with me asking some questions about him, such as the working environment there.
