I applied online and got a response from the Technical Recruiter. After which there was a phone screening with the hiring manager and then an onsite. The initial rounds were very professionally handled. However, there were a couple of interviewers who seemed to be in a hurry.

Questions

Mostly behavioral, based on prior experiences. There were also questions related to system design and current technology.

Pros: A few motivated and ethical people.

Cons: The executive leadership has been playing a game of hit and trial for the last couple of years to stay afloat. They opened India offices, hired 50+ members, and decided to shut them down after inaugurating offices in Hyderabad and Bangalore in just 4 months. This shows the lack of vision, strategy, and foresight of leadership. Any company is made of two assets: people and culture. The people who are left after back-to-back massive layoffs (4 since Nov 2022) are just passing the time each day. Being a recent ex-employee, the motivation of people is extremely low. Don't get clouded by the positivity that's shown during interviews. It's all a facade. And the culture is horrible. 50+ India employees were informed over a 2-minute Zoom call that they were let go by HR. No leader cared to show up and no 1:1's were scheduled with managers. On top of it, the health insurance ended the same day, and a meager 2-month severance package was handed out. On top of this, considering how the housing market is not doing great and the interest rates are still high, the product is just hanging by a thread before it dies.

Product oriented, less string focus on engineering quality

Pros: Some very strong engineers built a very good infrastructure and framework.

Cons: Overall culture is super product oriented, and not enough emphasis is on engineering, even inside the eng org.

Toxic environment with constant layoffs and poor benefits

Pros: Lots of AI tools are available.

Cons: Employees are treated like disposable garbage. Benefits are quite bad, and the 401k is only $600. Constant silent layoffs and reorgs. Kaz talks like a child and is always swearing to make himself sound cool, making him the most unauthentic person ever. The business model is not going to work in a higher interest rate environment. Accept an offer, but keep looking elsewhere. Seen them layoff people right before getting their stocks vested at the end of year 1 and on pat leave, so don’t keep your hopes high. The office is like a hunger games environment where everyone is wondering if today’s the layoff day and has no culture. You’ll be forced to RTO into such an office. The leadership is incompetent and arrogant at the same time.
