QA Manager Interview Experience - San Jose, California

Process

I was interviewing for a QA Manager position at their San Jose campus. I was scheduled to meet three people: two directors and one manager.

The interview was mostly behavioral. They really drilled into my resume, asking quite a few questions about what I did in each project and how I would manage certain situations.

  1. The hiring manager was the first to interview me. He was late to start and began the interview in the cafeteria. The area where we initially sat was noisy, so he moved me to another spot within the cafeteria. I was surprised by his reluctance to use a conference room that had already been scheduled. This manager, who seemed to be based in India, was looking for someone to represent him here. While explaining the group, he stated, "The engineering team is a bit hyper here; will you be able to manage them?" I was taken aback by his words, as he wasn't painting a positive picture of the group.

  2. Later, I was interviewed by two other people in the conference room. They were very reasonable, and I felt I performed well during those interviews.

Overall, the interview went okay, but I wasn't considering joining the group due to the hiring manager. The recruiters also never called back and didn't follow up with any emails, which was again surprising.
