Software Engineer Interview Experience - Amsterdam, Netherlands

Process

The whole interviewing process took about a month. It started with the recruiter, then the hiring engineering manager, an hour-long coding exercise, and a behavioral interview. After passing this stage, I was invited for the on-site interviews, which consisted of six interviews over two days.

Most interviews were with two people: an interviewer and a shadow. The interviews included:

  • System design
  • A 90-minute coding exercise
  • A behavioral interview with a manager
  • A behavioral interview with a product manager
  • Another long behavioral interview (e.g., "tell me about a time that...")
  • A final chat with two engineering managers (this last one was more a chance for me to ask questions).

I had a positive experience. The interviewers were polite, respectful, and modest. I really liked Plaid and the people I talked to, but unfortunately, I didn't get an offer.

Questions

The interview featured a lot of behavioral questions, more than I recall in any previous interview process.

The coding exercises were relevant and made sense. Both coding interviewers asked me to run the code and write quite a bit of tests.

Was this helpful?
