Qualcomm invests in creating new things, so there are lots of opportunities to create. The environment is what I would call "traditional corporate". You don't have free lunches or on-site massages like the dot-coms, but you do have private offices with doors that can close.
The drawback is that Qualcomm best understands radio, and the modem-side of the house gets all the love. If you're on another technology and things are going well, then you'll be supported. However, when tightening hits, it will be your project on the block because the radio is where it's at.
You have great people in many locations and in many technologies. But you have to give them the chance to create. It may be that management can't handle the pressure of quarterly results, and that Paul Jacob's idea of taking the company private might make the most sense.
