I had a call with the recruiter to discuss the job description and what team would be the best fit for me.
I applied to the full-stack role and got the interview scheduled. However, I received an email the next day thanking me for applying and stating they were not interested. (Note: I hadn't had a chance to interview yet.)
I called the recruiter again and asked why I was rejected before interviewing. He didn't know what to say, then told me to apply again. It looks like there's some kind of mix-up.
I did the coding interview with a staff engineer and was able to pass all the test cases. The interviewer was happy and asked more about how I could have differently approached the problem. We discussed time/space complexity and using a hashmap.
After the interview was over, I waited a week with no answer from the recruiter. I had sent a follow-up email regarding the outcome. I just wanted to know if I should move on, as there were no answers at all.
I waited another day and then called him. He seemed caught off guard when I mentioned my name and then claimed he had more than 70 applicants. This immediately raised a red flag. He didn't tell me that when he first approached me.
I'm not sure what's going on. Are they really hiring? I feel like they wasted my time and I'm not sure what they expect other than passing all the test cases in a one-hour algorithm question.
