Process

A recruiter contacted me about a position. I hadn't heard of the role before, and it wasn't related to my background.

They brought me in for one interview, then a second. Afterward, I was told I had four more interviews to complete. I felt I did well on most of them. I liked the team, and they seemed to like me. I often ran over the estimated time because we connected so well.

Then, they asked for another interview – a seventh! However, they kept rescheduling it with unusual excuses, which felt a lot like breadcrumbing.

After weeks of delays, I finally asked if we could expedite the process. They brought me in to speak with someone from another department who asked obscure technical questions unrelated to the job. Finally, he asked me to describe the entire process flow of a product I had only used briefly and which had been end-of-life for over half a decade. I wasn't retaining information from so long ago, especially for a defunct product. I didn't perform well with his line of questioning.

A week later, I received a rejection. When I asked for the reason, I was told I didn't have the existing experience they wanted. I then asked, "How is that the reason for rejection? You reached out to me about this position and then caused me to spend multiple vacation days speaking with so many people. You saw my experience beforehand." They simply replied, "I guess our requirements changed somewhere in the middle." It seemed quite sketchy, but at least they provided a reason.

Therefore, the entire process was an incredible waste of time and energy. I strongly discourage interviewing with this company, or at least with this team.

If I could overlook the enormous waste of time and energy that apparently was just-for-kicks, I would say it was a decent process. For the most part, everyone I spoke with was pleasant.
