The first interview was a pair programming exercise where I navigated a grid with a Roomba.

The interviewer was pretty eager to jump in and made it clear it was a collaborative environment. I finished 20 minutes early and had a nice conversation with the engineer about various aspects of the culture.

I felt pretty great coming away from that interview but was rejected. I understand that for later rounds, one can do well and still be rejected, but it makes little sense to me that they would cut off their applicant pool during the screening round when applicants are crushing the assignment.
