Frustrating and unfair process.

Got rejected, hence the salty words.

Was first reached by a Shopify recruiter on LinkedIn saying they are growing and want to hire 2021 developers.

The process started with a fairly easy one-hour coding exercise interview. I was able to solve the problem in around 20 minutes and spent another 20 just talking with the interviewer about life at Shopify.

After the coding exercise interview, I was invited to an hour-long Life Story interview. This is supposed to give you space to say what makes you, you. You are free to guide the conversation, so I focused on my IT-related achievements through life that took me here.

A few days later, I got an automated message stating that they had many candidates and decided to not move forward as my experience was not what they were looking for at the moment. This is quite frustrating, as at no moment was anything discussed related to what they are looking for. No open positions, no expected experience, nothing. I guess I should have parachute-jumped, or learned portrait painting when I had the chance.

What kind of life experience is Shopify looking for? It seems knowing the actual soft & hard skills that will help the company grow is not relevant.

Update: After inquiring about the Life Story interview result, I was told that they mostly take into consideration the professional experience paired with the other (zero) interviews with the team. It still feels like flipping a coin, though.
