Process

Initial phone call with Ben, who is awesome. He's probably the best recruiter I dealt with during this job search. Honestly, everyone I met there on the mobile team and the VP of Engineering were awesome—really cool and smart people.

After the initial call, I had a take-home assignment. You could definitely hack it out in 2 hours if you wanted, but it leaves room for you to show off your process, a little architecture, etc. After that, I had an on-site with 2 members of the mobile team. This session was architecture.

After that, a session with the VP of Engineering, who gives you a whiteboard problem. Nothing too wild. I recognized it as a common problem but couldn't remember the best way to solve it. It was pretty fun to work through it with him. It felt like I was back in a CS class solving a puzzle instead of a job interview.

The mobile lead was out that day, so I had a second on-site just with him. Pair programming. Admittedly, I should have been faster, but I've never used VIPER, so all the jargon just ended up making me over-think the simple task that needed to be accomplished. I got the tests green, but I'm guessing this was probably my weakest session.

I got the rejection email from Ben 2 days later, saying I wasn't a good fit. Kind of sucks. I had another offer on the table that I wasn't going to accept. I told the third-party recruiter they found me through about it. I got the feeling they thought I was giving them a 2-day hard deadline, so obviously, they passed to review other candidates.

Cool company though. I definitely would recommend working here, especially if you don't mind VIPER.
