I enjoyed many of the people I worked with. I struggled with work/life balance in both Hardlines and Logistics

Pros

I worked with some smart, talented, and driven individuals. Target is run on many fine-tuned processes. It was here I learned how to manage and how not to manage my team. The pay was great, and I increased my salary based on performance quickly in just 3 short years.

Cons

Work-life balance was nearly impossible. Many days I would arrive before 6 am and leave after 7 pm.

Leadership as a whole was ready to critique and point out all imperfections on the floor and in processes, making any progress or positives go unnoticed.

Advice to Management

As a whole, encourage your leaders you employ to think creatively about the process and change the processes when they don't work. To be a leader in a building introducing many new processes, to be told "follow the best practice" is not a constructive response when something isn't working. As store, district, and group leaders, connect with your leaders more often than during weekly or monthly visits. Take the time for personal connection.
