If you don't have an official project, you're encouraged to elaborate with other developers on ways to better experiences, think of new ideas to incorporate into various platforms, or new ideas in general.
You have to wait about 2 weeks to actually "start". I needed access to local admin on 2 computers, as well as software that I needed to be approved for. Then, I needed admin rights on that machine because it's OS specific.
