Pros

I had a blast during my internship. I was able to be around many seasoned engineers and automotive contractors. It was an extremely hands-on internship, with a lot of overtime.

  • Good pay as an intern: $28/h + lots of overtime
  • Great/understanding bosses
  • Hands-on experience
  • Non-union
Cons
  • Seemed to be a lot of wasted money due to deadlines.
  • A lot of shift fluctuations for full-time engineers, and apparently no reimbursement.
  • People burnout.
  • Way too many managers in areas they are not needed.
  • Because of the amount of bodies needed, poor attitudes and a bad workforce were kept on.
Advice to Management

Maybe it's time for Elon Musk to be the vision of the company, but not set the timelines. There appears to be a lot of wasted money due to wanting to meet deadlines. Additionally, the deadlines caused the need for a less than optimal workforce due to the volume of workers needed for the model launch.

Make a big effort to reduce turnover of engineering talent.
