Android Engineer Interview Experience - Los Angeles, California

June 1, 2016
Positive ExperienceNo Offer

Process

The interview process began with a referral from an employee, followed by an email contact and a brief 10-minute recruiter phone screening, which did not include technical questions. The company arranged for travel and accommodations for an on-site interview.

The on-site portion consisted of two stages:

  • The first stage involved a couple of hours to develop a simple Android app. Candidates were given a few very loose specifications or ideas to choose from. Afterward, they presented the app and its code to a panel of Android engineers, answering questions about design decisions and Android in general.
  • The second stage comprised two one-on-one whiteboard coding interviews. These featured standard whiteboard questions, similar in difficulty and depth to those typically encountered in a Google on-site interview.

Overall, it was an enjoyable interview experience, and I had a great time despite not receiving an offer.

Questions

Follow-up to whiteboard question:

If you had to process more nodes than could be stored in memory, how would you change your code?
