Process

The interview process involved several stages:

Initial HR interview
Technical/coding screen
Onsite interview

The technical screen was challenging. The onsite interview included similar technical/coding assessments, behavioral questions, and system design. The entire process was fast, and HR was very responsive. Although no offer was extended, HR called to provide feedback from the team, which I appreciate.

Questions

Coding a square puzzle problem:

An NxN square puzzle is made of 2x2 matrix blocks that contain integers. Two blocks match when they have the same numbers on the edge. Code how to solve the puzzle. It's guaranteed there is one and unique solution.

DS and Algorithms.

Behavioral questions.

System Design - about a system to process fault diagnostics data from cars.

Pros: A great place for passionate people. The culture is very open and transparent. As an engineer, the whole code line is open for you, and you can work on pretty much anything you want to make an impact on. It's a very gratifying experience, as you can make changes and see them touch people's lives almost every day.

Cons: With insane growth comes a lot of side effects, especially when lots of work usually ends up on your plate. There is a struggle with work-life balance, but we're getting good at this. It's a good problem to have, considering it's a side effect of amazing growth.

Pros: A great place for passionate people. The culture is very open and transparent. As an engineer, the whole code line is open for you, and you can work on pretty much anything you want to make an impact on. It's a very gratifying experience, as you can make changes and see them touch people's lives almost every day.

Cons: With insane growth comes a lot of side effects, especially when lots of work usually ends up on your plate. There is a struggle with work-life balance, but we're getting good at this. It's a good problem to have, considering it's a side effect of amazing growth.

Pros: I worked in ATG, the self-driving branch. Great workplace with a good culture and a lot of very smart people.

Cons: The news outlets love to hate on Uber, and thus this leads to a lot of unnecessary drama and instability.

Pros: I strongly believe in the company's mission. While other top tech companies are all competing to steal your time, Uber is giving you the time back by getting you, things, or food from point A to point B as fast as possible. Almost everyone I know uses our products, and it feels great to know how it works internally and to be able to influence its future. There are a lot of interesting challenges with plenty of opportunities to have impact. It's a great team.
