I didn't do extremely well, so I wasn't expecting a hire decision. I did, however, expect the recruiter to give a courtesy call or email, or respond to my follow-up, indicating I wasn't selected.
It's really not good to have a culture that exhibits the most toxic and poorly tolerated social behaviors. Imagine what they think of you after they hire you. Do you think it improves beyond drawing a paycheck?
It's better to not waste one's time on such a culture unless one has an exit plan going in.

Pros: I have learned an enormous amount about both software engineering and how to be effective in an organization the size of Uber.
Uber seems to really be making an effort to do right by its various stakeholders in the wake of several controversies surrounding the company in 2017.
Excellent opportunities for career growth. Uber rewards effort and impact with generosity and fairness.
The business continues to grow rapidly even though it is already huge.
Dara is great.
Cons: The company is so huge that learning to be diplomatic when working with other teams is a necessity. Sometimes the people you have to work with will not want to help you, but you have to find a way to deliver anyway.
There was a period in 2017 when the company was in a deep cultural crisis. That was a weird time, and things are very different now than they were pre-crisis. Uber is a little more grown up, but a little less fun than it used to be.
Some co-workers on other teams have told me their work-life balance is less than ideal.

Pros: Things are happening so fast at incredible scale, and so many opportunities are open to build new things with large impact.
Cons: Long work hours seem very common, especially if you will work on projects directly related to the car dispatching system.
